Here, we don't specifically check with any particular department in terms of holds, etc. About a month before we start to destroy the records that are due, I'll send out a list to the various departments letting them know that "Boxes ABC in series 1,2,3", etc will be destroyed starting in a month and that if there's anything they need/want to get a last look at, or a hold that needs to be applied, they've got a month to let me know about it. If they don't contact me, I assume the files are fine to be destroyed.
Granted, I'm dealing with a smaller operation than most of you, and it's easy to touch base with the record owners to see if something's up before I start destroying.
