Re: Peer Reviewed Journal:

I'm following this exchange with great interest, since it tends to recur
over time. As a diverse Association made up of close to 11,000 professional
members, ARMA is often called upon to "step up to the plate" to pursue a
variety of different endeavors. Our decisions are based on the member
feedback that we receive during the course of our regular outreach efforts,
one of which includes a "Value Member Survey". Although it does not mean
that the development of a "peer reviewed journal" fails any validation test,
but those of us who serve on ARMA International's Board of Directors do not
see this as an effort that rises to the top. It is that member feedback
that actually drives our decision-making process.

There have been challenges in the past in pursuing the development of such a
journal, including;
(1) the investment required, given a number of competing priorities,
(2) the very small number of articles submitted for such review - we're
often challenged to ensure that we receive a continuing flow of
volunteer-written articles for existing publications.
(3) and the ability to assemble and retain a peer review team that is
capable of covering the exceptionally broad spectrum of areas that are now
covered within Records and Information Management.

It's great to see this topic arise on a Sunday, when the listserv is
normally quite quiet.... and I hope to see the discussion continue.
Further, for those who may focus on this topic, or on others, I hope that
you won't hesitate to let your "voices" be heard whenever we pursue surveys
of our membership in the future.

President, ARMA International
