Hi Doug,

Full disclosure for those who don't know - I taught the AIIM ERM and ECM
Master Classes last year; I remain an AIIM ECM Master Case grader; and I am
presently developing the AIIM Email Certificate Program I referenced
earlier.

They did. The original ECM Practitioner program, released in 2003, had a
single online module for storage, COLD, content management, ECM, BPM,
imaging, etc. They added an email course in 2004, but the intent all along
was to seed the market and see where the needs for detailed information were
and then address them. That's what is happening now. And the Focused courses
are still available that are shorter and more condensed.

Think about it another way. In a large organization, one person won't be
doing the ECM, ERM, enterprise search, BPM, CM, and email; it will be
more-or-less dedicated individuals or even groups in each of those areas.
Cross-training and cross-functional teams are good; having a suite of
education to hit each of those areas in depth sounds to me like a good thing
(and not just because I joined AIIM 17 days before I joined ARMA).

And the best part is students get to take what they need or what interests
them rather than a ton of stuff that isn't or doesn't. Different skillsets:
6 different programs. Different levels of information required according to
role: 4 levels, including Strategy, Practitioner, Specialist, Master. Not
really analogous, but sounds not that dissimilar from the Competencies
program coming from ARMA with its roles and levels.
