At the risk of being considered to be spamming the list, the AIIM Email
Certificate Program course I developed and am teaching includes a module on
exactly this topic - how to use email effectively for communications and use
of other tools when more appropriate (such as for collaboration in drafting
a document).

I think Gary's fundamental question is a good one; I am on deadline at the
moment but I will give this some thought and some research to see what I can
