Again, at risk of trolling the list, this was one of the issues I addressed
in the AIIM Email ROI calculator I developed and AIIM released last month.
It's only available to professional members, but those of you that are AIIM
members can find it at http://www.aiim.org/Membership/article.aspx?ID=34808.

To the larger point, implementation of an email management system should
eventually slow the growth of email to be managed and the amount of storage
required over time, which will result in some comparatively minor cost
savings. Consider that 1 TB of consumer-grade storage is under $200, so even
a petabyte (roughly 1,000 TB or 1,000,000 GB) of storage is only $20,000
today and will continue to get cheaper over time.

It can (and ideally will) also lead to more effective email management
processes which is where the real savings can be found. Better processes
will hopefully lead to much lower costs to find email, whether in support of
business processes, litigation and discovery, or regulatory audit. And it
should also result in users spending less time sorting through the vast
wasteland that is the typical inbox, resulting in increased operational
efficiency.

Regards,

Jesse Wilkins
