I think Peter's response was rather to the CRM and the CRM prep workshops
that continue to gain in popularity, and for which the ICRM has apparently
just released formally developed training curricula. I'm also not sure it's
helpful to compare a certification that is 5 months old with one celebrating
some 35 years. Every week brings more CIPs, and no small percentage of them
are CIP/CRMs.

We do plan to make a searchable registry available at some point but most of
us are focused on more immediate needs like the rebirth of the AIIM
Conference in 3 weeks, the development of the Social Media Governance
Certificate Program which will be offered as a precon at AIIM 2012 and MER
2012, and working with chapters and partners to develop and produce
CIP-focused training workshops.

I do want to continue to stress that the CIP is not designed to compete with
the CRM, CDIA+, CIPP, or any of the other focused certifications out there.
It is in fact complementary to them and allows e.g. a CRM to also
demonstrate a broader understanding of everything else that doesn't fall
under records management or under the CRM exam in its current form - things
like information workplace, telecommuting, text analytics, enterprise
search, web content management, etc. As I noted earlier in the thread I
think this is a great way to "bridge the gap between records and IT", "get a
seat at the table", etc. and not just because I run it. :)

Respectfully,

Jesse Wilkins, CIP, CRM
