Here is another example processes vary from institution to institution. I recently tried to deposit a couple of checks I had been carrying around for some time. The bank had problems with both of them.
The first was made out to Bill Roach and my ID said William Roach. The young lady behind the counter had to check with her supervisor to get permission to cash the check. She was new and explained to me that she did not know that Bill was a nickname for William.
Several days later, I decided to deposit a rebate check that had been laying around. The deposit was rejected because the check said it was "Void after 90 days".
